Process documentation Transport by Pipeline  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

You can use this process to map pure transport by pipeline and combined transport by pipeline within the dangerous goods checks and dangerous goods documents components in the system. Materials that are transported by pipeline are not considered as dangerous goods. For this reason, no dangerous goods checks are run for transport by pipeline. Dangerous goods documents are not output for pipeline shipments in the standard system.

The following case is an example of a pipeline shipment in which the dangerous goods checks are to be executed.

You are transporting a material by pipeline. Since there are no dangerous goods regulations for the mode-of-transport category pipeline, you do not want the dangerous goods checks to be executed. However, you want to make sure that a data record with the country for the destination point and the mode-of-transport category road, derived from the destination address of the pipeline shipment, is printed on the delivery note. A dangerous goods check is to be performed for this data record.

You can map this scenario by entering an additional data record with mode-of-transport category 01 (road) in the corresponding table and marking the data records with mode-of-transport category 20 (pipeline) as not being relevant for checks and documents.

Prerequisites

·        In Customizing for Sales and Distribution you have made settings in the following IMG activities:

¡        Define Modes of Transport: you have specified pipeline as a mode of transport and assigned the mode-of-transport category pipeline to it

¡        Define Shipping Types: you have specified pipeline as a shipping type and assigned the mode of transport pipeline to it

·        Entered a route in the sales or shipping document, or legs in the shipment document.

Process Flow

...

       1.      The system determines all country and mode-of-transport category combinations from the SD document.

Note

See also Enhanced Determination of Country and Mode-of-Transport Category Combinations .

       2.      The system starts processing the dangerous goods check methods, taking into account only those route stages and leg stages for which there is no transport by pipeline.

       3.      The check log is generated. In the case of combined transport by pipeline (for example, transport by pipeline from Frankfurt to Rotterdam, and then by ship from Rotterdam to the USA) the message No dangerous goods checks for mode-of-transport category 20 (pipeline). appears in the log header. If transportation is purely by pipeline the system does not generate a check log and the message No dangerous goods checks for mode-of-transport category 20 (Pipeline)appears.

Result

The system does not perform dangerous goods checks for all country/mode of transport category combinations that contain the mode of transport category 20 (pipeline) as standard and does not generate dangerous goods documents as standard.
